Kids Dirt Bike Electric vs Gas Cost 2026

2 min read

Short answer: A kids gas bike costs less up front and an electric bike costs more up front. Our 50cc gas mini is $300, or $350 total with a helmet. The Sykeruns X5 is $975 and the Sykeruns X7 is $1350. All three ship free to all 50 states, and all three can be picked up the same day in Tempe.

The up front cost, side by side

The gas mini is $300. That is $675 less than the X5 at $975 and $1050 less than the X7 at $1350. The X7 is $375 more than the X5. Price is the biggest gap between gas and electric, so start with the rider and the fit, then check the price still makes sense. Our full cost guide and our under $500 guide break the gas price down further, and the under $1000 guide and the under $1500 guide do the same for the electric bikes.

What the gas bike costs to run

The 50cc is a two stroke, so it runs on gas mixed with oil. Mixing is simple once you know the ratio, and our fuel mix guide walks through the 25 to 1 mix step by step. The bike is pull start and automatic with no gears and no clutch, it is made for ages about 5 to 13 and riders up to 170 lb, and top speed is 32 mph with a speed limiter a parent can set slower. See the full 50cc collection for colors. Black and blue are the most asked for, with green, red and yellow in the same collection.

What the electric bikes cost to run

The X5 and X7 run on a battery, so the running cost is charging, not fuel. The X5 is a 3000W 48V bike and the X7 is a 5500W 60V bike. Our battery charging guide covers how to charge and how to make a battery last, and the X5 vs X7 guide helps you pick between them. Electric fits teens and adults better than young kids, so read the teen electric guide or the adult electric guide if the rider is older, and browse the electric collection.

Gear cost counts for both

Every rider needs a helmet on day one, whichever bike you pick. With the gas bike, the simple way to cover that is the $350 total for the bike with a helmet. Electric riders still need a helmet and gear on top of the bike price. Our safety gear guide lists what a rider needs before the first ride.

What shows up and what support you get

Gas and electric bikes from us are about 90 percent built. The front wheel and handlebar are left to fit with included tools and a video, and our setup guide shows the work before you start. Every bike is off road only with no title. Every bike also comes with 1 year parts support through the manufacturer, so the support cost after you buy is the same for gas and electric.

So which cost is right for your family?

Pick gas at $300, or $350 with a helmet, for a younger kid who fits the 50cc. Pick electric at $975 or $1350 for a teen or adult who has outgrown the 50cc. Size comes before price, so check the size guide first, then read the full gas vs electric guide before you order. We are a family owned mini moto and ebike club in Tempe, and we are glad to help you pick the bike that fits your rider and your budget.
