Mini Dirt Bike for Kids: What to Look For Before You Buy

2 min read

Short answer: a mini dirt bike for kids is a small frame bike built for young riders to learn on. Ours is a 50cc gas mini at $300, or $350 total with a helmet, with free shipping to all 50 states and same day pickup in Tempe. See the colors in our 50cc collection.

What to look for first

Look for a bike that is simple to start and simple to ride. Our mini is a 50cc two stroke with a pull start and an automatic setup, so there are no gears to learn. A parent can set the speed with a limiter screw. Read our speed limiter guide to see how that works.

Top speed is 32 mph with the limiter opened up, and most kids start far below that while they learn. Our how fast guide explains what that speed feels like for a young rider.

Check the size, not just the age

Our mini fits kids about 5 to 13 years old and up to 170 lb. Size matters more than age alone. A rider who can touch the ground and reach the bars will feel more in control. Use our size guide by age and height and our age guide before you pick a color. Black and blue are the most asked for colors, and green, red and yellow are in the same collection.

Check the total price

The bike is $300 and shipping is free, so there is no added shipping fee at checkout. The bundle is $350 total for the bike plus a helmet. Our cost guide lays out the full budget, and our kids dirt bike under $500 guide shows why the total stays low for a first bike.

Gear to have ready

A helmet is not optional on day one. Many families add gloves and goggles the same day. Read our safety gear guide for what to have ready before the first ride.

What shows up at your door

The bike arrives about 90 percent built. You fit the front wheel and the handlebar with the included tools and a video we send. It is off road only and it has no title. It comes with 1 year parts support through the manufacturer. Our setup guide walks through the first hour, and our fuel mix guide covers the gas and oil mix.

When a mini is too small

If the rider is an older teen or is already over the size above, a mini will feel small fast. Look at the Sykeruns X5 at $975 and the Sykeruns X7 at $1350 in our electric collection. Our gas vs electric guide helps you pick the right lane.
