50cc Dirt Bike Seat Height: About 24 Inches and How to Check Fit

3 min read

Short answer

The 50cc gas mini has a seat height of about 24 inches. That low seat is a big reason it fits young riders well. The bike is $300, or $350 total with a helmet, with free shipping to all 50 states and same day pickup in Tempe.

How to check fit at home

Seat height is the distance from the ground to the top of the seat. Have your rider sit on a bike if you can, or use our size guide by height to check fit before you order. A rider who can get a foot down and hold the bike up has a much easier first ride. A rider who cannot touch the ground at all is on a bike that is too tall for right now.

Age alone does not tell you fit. Two riders of the same age can be very different in height. Our age guide covers when a child is ready to start, and our teach a kid guide covers the first ride itself, step by step.

Fit is seat height and weight together

The 50cc is built for ages about 5 to 13 and for a rider up to 170 lb. Check both numbers before you buy. A rider can fit the seat height and still be over the weight limit, or fit the weight limit and still find the seat too tall. Our weight limit guide lines up all three bikes we sell by rider weight, so you can see the full picture in one place.

Easy to ride while a rider learns balance

A low seat helps most when a rider is still learning balance and stopping. The 50cc is a two stroke with pull start and automatic riding, with no gears and no clutch to manage. Top speed is 32 mph, and a parent can set the speed limiter slower while a rider learns. Our how fast guide explains what that speed feels like on real ground.

Gear has to fit too

Fit is not only about the bike. A helmet has to fit well before the first ride, and that is why the $350 total with a helmet is the pick for most families. Our safety gear guide covers what a young rider needs, and our helmet total guide covers what the $350 total does and does not include.

What shows up

The bike arrives about 90 percent built. You fit the front wheel and the handlebar with the included tools and a video. Our setup guide walks through the work, and the fuel mix guide covers the 25 to 1 mix. The bike is off road only and has no title. It comes with 1 year parts support through the manufacturer. Our first dirt bike experience guide covers day one from the box to the first ride.

When a rider has outgrown this seat

A taller or heavier rider needs a bigger bike, not a taller seat on this one. The Sykeruns X5 is $975 and fits a rider about 4 ft to 5 ft 11 in and up to 265 lb, with a top speed of 50 mph. The Sykeruns X7 is $1350 and fits a rider about 4 ft 8 in to 6 ft 3 in and up to 330 lb, with a top speed of 56 mph. The electric product pages list rider height ranges rather than a seat height, so pick those two by the height range and the weight limit. Our teen electric guide helps with that pick, and the electric collection shows both bikes.

Start with fit, then pick a color

Once fit is right, color is the fun part. Black and blue are the colors parents ask for most, and green, red and yellow are in the same collection at the same $300 price. Our buying guide and our best 50cc guide help you check the rest of the pick, and our cost guide shows the full price picture. We are a family owned mini moto and ebike club in Tempe, and we are glad to help you check fit before you order.
