Dirt Bike for Girls: Same Bike, Right Fit and the Right Color

3 min read

Short answer: for most girls about 5 to 13 and under 170 lb, the right first bike is the 50cc gas mini at $300, or $350 total with a helmet. It is the same bike we sell to every young rider. Free shipping to all 50 states and same day pickup in Tempe.

There is no girls version and that is a good thing

Parents ask if the bike is different for a girl. It is not. The engine, frame, brakes and seat are the same. What matters is fit, confidence and whether she can reach the controls well. Our buying guide for a first 50cc and our age guide apply in exactly the same way.

Fit comes before color

Seat height on the 50cc is about 24 inches, so most riders can get a foot down when the bike tips. The range is ages about 5 to 13 with a 170 lb max rider weight. Use our size guide by age and height to check fit before you pick a color. A rider who can hold the bike up and pull the brake lever well is ready. A rider who cannot do those two things should wait a little, no matter what the calendar says.

Easy to start learning on

The 50cc is a two stroke with pull start and automatic riding. There are no gears and there is no clutch, so she only learns throttle and brakes at first. Top speed is 32 mph, and a parent can set it much slower with the limiter. Read how fast a 50cc goes and how the speed limiter works before the first ride. Our beginner kid guide and our first ride guide walk through day one in plain steps.

Pick the color she points to

The live colors are black, blue, green, red and yellow. Black and blue are the most asked for colors overall. Color does not change the price, the speed or the fit, so let her pick the one she wants to look at every day. That choice helps the bike feel like hers from the first ride.

Gear and the $350 total

A helmet is needed before the first ride. That is why the $350 total with a helmet is the number most families use. Our safety gear guide covers what else helps, and our helmet total guide explains what the $350 covers and what it does not cover. What shows up

The bike is about 90 percent built. You fit the front wheel and the handlebar with the included tools and a video. It is off road only and there is no title. Fuel is mixed at 25 to 1, and our fuel mix guide and our setup guide cover the first hour. Parts support is 1 year through the manufacturer. Our first dirt bike experience guide shows what the first day feels like for a new rider.

For an older girl or a teen rider

When a rider is over 170 lb, or has outgrown the 50cc, the step up is electric. The Sykeruns X5 is $975, fits about 4 ft to 5 ft 11 in and up to 265 lb, and has a top speed of 50 mph with gear steps at about 15, 27 and 50 mph. The Sykeruns X7 is $1350, fits about 4 ft 8 in to 6 ft 3 in and up to 330 lb, and has a top speed of 56 mph for taller or heavier riders and for hills and sand. Compare them in our teen electric guide and our gas vs electric guide, or browse the electric collection.

We are a family owned mini moto and ebike club in Tempe. Pick by fit first, then by color, and the right bike is the one in the 50cc collection that she can hold up, stop well and grow into.
