50cc Dirt Bikes for Sale Near Me: What to Check Before You Buy

5 min read

If you are searching 50cc dirt bike for sale near me, you are probably looking at a Marketplace listing right now wondering whether it is legit. Here is what to actually check, from someone who ships these every day.

Quick note on who we are. Plugged by 50CC is an independent retailer, not a manufacturer and not a franchised dealership. We buy bikes new from the factory and ship them on in the crate. We do not build them, modify them or service them. What we do is handle the factory on your behalf when a part comes through wrong, which is the part most sellers will not do.

New in the crate, or used off someone's lawn

This is the first fork in the road and it decides most of the rest.

Used. You will see 50cc minis for $150 to $250 on Marketplace. Some are fine. Many have been dropped, run on the wrong fuel mix, or have a seized top end the seller will not mention. You cannot get parts support on a bike you bought from a stranger, and a $200 bike that needs a $120 carburetor and a new piston is not a $200 bike.

New. Brand new in the factory box, never started, never dropped. You know the history because there is no history. Ours are $300 with free shipping to all 50 states.

What to check before you hand over money

  • Does the seller answer specs without dodging. Ask the top speed, the max rider weight, the seat height. If they say "it's a 50cc" and nothing else, they do not know what they are selling.
  • Is there a speed governor. On a kids bike this matters more than anything. A governor screw on the carburetor lets you cap the bike at walking pace and open it up as your kid earns it. No governor means one speed, and that speed is full.
  • What happens when a part breaks. Not if. When. Ask who you call. If the answer is nobody, you are buying a disposable bike.
  • Is it actually assembled. Nearly all of these ship about 90 percent built, front wheel and handlebars left. Any seller promising a fully built bike out of the box is either paying someone to build it or stretching the truth.
  • Street legal claims. There is no such thing as a street legal 50cc mini of this type. No title, no VIN, no registration. Off road only. A seller claiming otherwise is telling you something that is not true.

What a fair price looks like in 2026

What you are buying Typical price The catch
Used off Marketplace $150 to $250 Unknown history, no support, parts on you
New from most online sellers $340 and up, plus shipping Shipping often added at checkout
New from us $300, shipping included Ships sealed in its factory crate exactly as it reaches us, about 90% assembled from the factory; you finish the front wheel and bars
Big box store $400 to $500 No parts support once the receipt is old

Watch the shipping line specifically. A $280 bike with $90 freight is a $370 bike. Ours is $300 and that is the whole number, there is no shipping line at checkout because there is nothing to charge you.

Near me does not have to mean local

People search near me because they want it fast and they want a person to talk to. Reasonable. But local pickup is not automatically better.

We ship free to all 50 states, orders go out the same day, and delivery is normally 2 to 5 business days with tracking the day it leaves. That is often faster than driving an hour each way to meet a stranger in a parking lot, and you get parts support afterwards either way.

If you are in the Phoenix or Tempe area, same day pickup is there. Text 623 320 8984 and we will set a time.

The questions people actually ask us

How fast does it go?
32 mph with a light rider on flat ground, and the governor screw lets you cap it far lower while they learn. See our buying guide for parents if you are still picking a first bike.

What age is it for?
Roughly 5 to 13, max rider weight 170 lbs, seat height about 24 inches. Our size guide by age and height helps you check fit before you buy.

Do I have to build it?
Not from scratch. It reaches you sealed in its factory crate exactly as it reaches us, about 90% assembled from the factory, so you only fit the front wheel and the handlebars, tighten a few bolts and add the fluids. Tools are in the box and there is a step by step video. Most families are riding within 20 to 30 minutes.

What if something arrives broken?
Send a short video. If a part came through defective we take the claim to the factory on your behalf and get the correct part sent out free. We are the middleman on that, not the warranty company, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.

Can I ride it on the road?
No. Off road only, no title, no VIN. Where you can legally ride varies by city and county, so check your local rules.

Before you ride it

Three things trip up nearly everybody, and all three have guides:

Ready to look? The 50cc gas bikes come in five colors at $300 shipped. Our best 50cc guide for kids walks through what to compare. Outgrown one? The Sykeruns X5 at $975 and the Sykeruns X7 at $1350 are built for teens and adults, and the full electric bikes list shows both.

Plugged by 50CC is an independent retailer. We do not manufacture, assemble, modify or service the bikes we sell. Every bike ships sealed in its factory crate exactly as it reaches us, about 90% assembled from the factory, and final assembly and setup are completed by the buyer. Off-road use only. Riders under 18 should always be supervised by an adult.

Helmet and gear every ride.
